Massimo Boccardini, Italy
Massimo illustrated the CHELLIS story "Energy"
Let’s start with a short introduction: Please tell us something about yourself (a very short biography)
I studied at the Art Institute in Perugia and then enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts. My passion was first for comics then oil painting. I experimented with many techniques, including etching and watercolour. I have taught these techniques during workshops and in schools to private individuals and in several local associations . I have published comic stories and illustrations in numerous free press and books.
What is your main inspiration in your artwork?
I take inspiration from the everyday scenes of people walking by and from nature.
How would you describe your art style and the techniques you use?
I like to experiment with many traditional techniques such as oil and watercolour painting, I also use pencils and pastels. I am very passionate about the linoleum etching technique. I rarely use digital techniques.
Have you already illustrated any stories before the CHELLIS project? What do you personally enjoy/like the most about this kind of work?
I really enjoy the design part of the work even though it is the most difficult part. I get excited about choosing the right point of view and shots, composition, etc. I always try to find an effective synthesis. I never fill the field of vision with too many details.
How long did it take you to work on the illustrations for CHELLIS project stories?
I worked on the development of the CHELLIS stories for about a month.
Where can people see examples of your work?
I have an Instagram and Facebook page, although I don't follow often. I rarely post.
